Historic centre of Peyia to be restored for €5.5 million

The Akamas Municipality has begun preparing a comprehensive master plan for the restoration and upgrading of Peyia’s traditional centre. The document will include the necessary studies, design work and supervision services for the implementation of the future project.

The first stage involved signing a contract between the municipality and an architectural firm for the preparation of the master plan and the necessary studies. The contract is worth approximately €250 thousand.

The total cost of the construction works under the project is estimated at approximately €5.5 million.

According to Akamas Mayor Marinos Lambrou, the preparation of the project will lay the groundwork for a major upgrade of Peyia’s historic centre. At the same time, the plan aims to preserve its architectural character and cultural heritage, while also taking local residents’ needs into account.

The reconstruction will also aim to preserve and promote one of the area’s main landmarks — the famous Vrisi ton Peyotisson fountain. The municipality has already reached an agreement to carry out conservation works.
