From the airport to the hotel — on foot: Serbian tourists turned down a taxi and walked to Ayia Napa on their own two feet

Arrive in Cyprus at 1 a.m. and, instead of taking a stuffy bus or an expensive taxi, head to the hotel on foot? That’s exactly what Nenad and Alex Popovich from Serbia did. They stepped off the plane at Larnaca Airport and made their way to Ayia Napa on foot.

The route in numbers:
• Distance: about 58 kilometers along the southeastern coast.
• Travel time: more than 10 hours (they set off at 01:00 and arrived by noon).

Why did they do it?
For the brothers, such endurance marches are a way of life and a means of promoting mental and physical health. According to them, during 10 hours of night and morning travel they saw the island from a completely different angle, took in landscapes you wouldn’t notice from a car window, and even had time to chat with locals.

Reception at the highest level:
The story quickly spread across social media, and in Ayia Napa the guys were welcomed like heroes. The city’s deputy mayor, Antonis Christou, personally invited the travelers to his office, thanked them for such a great example of determination, and wished them new crazy routes.
