Kataklysmos in Cyprus: Larnaca became the epicenter of massive celebrations, with no room to move on Finikoudes promenade

Cyprus has plunged into the atmosphere of Kataklysmos (Pentecost Monday), and Larnaca has traditionally become the main “hero” of the celebrations. The Finikoudes promenade has turned into an endless festive fair, drawing thousands of visitors from all corners of the island, who have been arriving here for the long weekend since Friday. Numerous market stalls have been set up along the promenade, offering visitors traditional delicacies (such as shoushouko and pastellaki), as well as toys and clothing. Although sellers note some restraint among buyers due to the current general situation, they still hope for increased activity during the festive days.

The city beaches are completely full of holidaymakers. As tradition dictates, water fights remain an integral part of the celebration. The extensive festive program includes concerts by well-known performers, Cypriot folk dances, and competitions of folk poets (tsiattista). In addition, beach volleyball competitions, open-water regattas, sailing and kayaking races, as well as a blitz chess tournament are planned for Finikoudes beach. The festive events and popular celebrations will last several days — the curtain will fall on the festivities on Wednesday.
