One in three voters did not turn out for the election

Despite the increase in turnout compared with the 2021 parliamentary elections, voter participation remains one of the main topics after the vote. According to official data, 33.09% of registered voters once again did not take part in the election.

A total of 380,851 people out of 569,182 eligible citizens took part in the vote. Final turnout stood at 66.9%, higher than in 2021, when 63.9% of voters went to the polls. However, more than 188,000 people once again ignored the election.

Notably, even the participation of 19 parties and more than 700 candidates did not significantly change the attitude of a large part of society toward the electoral process. Analysts note that the abstention rate has been steadily above 30% for several years.

The highest turnout was recorded in Paphos — 72.6%. Famagusta came second with 67.9%. In Nicosia, turnout was 66.9%, in Larnaca — 66.8%, and in Kyrenia — 66.3%.

The lowest participation was seen in Limassol, where only 63.7% of voters cast their ballots. As a result, abstention there reached 36.3%, the highest rate among the regions.

Experts note that the situation reflects the continued distrust of part of society toward the political system and the lack of a serious return of citizens to active participation in elections, despite a slight improvement in overall turnout.
