Cyprus farmers to receive €1.5 million for fuel and fertilisers

The Council of Ministers of Cyprus has approved two emergency support schemes for farmers worth a total of €1,501,200. The funds will compensate for the rising cost of diesel fuel and fertilisers, the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment said.

Both schemes are funded entirely from European sources under EU Regulation 2026/1894, which allows countries to support farmers when production costs rise. In Cyprus, the increase has been linked to the consequences of the geopolitical crisis in the Middle East.

The first scheme, with a budget of up to €800,000, covers the purchase of agricultural diesel from 1 April to 31 October 2026. The subsidy will amount to no more than €0.126 per litre. Professional farmers and agricultural enterprises holding a licence for marked fuel will be eligible.

The second scheme, worth up to €701,200, will compensate 15% of the cost, excluding VAT, of fertilisers purchased from 1 June to 31 October 2026. In both cases, the payment to a single recipient will not exceed €5,000, and applications for less than €100 will not be considered.

Applications will be accepted from 2 to 16 November 2026, and the funds will be distributed by the Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organization (CAPO). If the total value of applications exceeds the budget, payments will be reduced proportionally for all recipients. The Ministry of Agriculture will publish detailed application procedures separately.
