Cyprus could receive around €800 million from the EU for migration and security
The European Union plans to allocate around €800 million to the Republic of Cyprus under the next budget period from 2028 to 2034. These funds will be earmarked and will go exclusively to support migration policy, security initiatives and border management. The expected financing is more than 70% higher than the amount allocated to Cyprus for the current programme period.
Interior Minister Constantinos Ioannou said that such a level of support reflects the serious attention the EU gives to these areas. Under the current financial cycle, 95 different projects in the field of home affairs have already been approved and are being implemented in Cyprus for a total of €480 million (including an additional €98 million approved by the European Commission and national co-financing). According to the minister, Cyprus’ current presidency of the EU Council allows the country to actively participate in shaping the rules and financing tools for the future seven-year period.
