Cyprus expects the number of tourists from France to increase in 2027, as airlines are adding seats on flights between the two countries. This was stated by Cyprus Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis following meetings with tour operators and airlines at the IFTM Top Resa exhibition in Paris.

The French market is currently declining. In August 2026, Cyprus received 8,453 tourists from France — 46% fewer than in August 2025, when there were 15,663. In August 2024, 16,798 French tourists visited the island, meaning that the current figure is almost half as high.

The ministry attributes the decline in this market to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. At the same time, it considers the French market strategically important and in need of targeted promotion designed specifically for this audience.

“Air connectivity between France and Cyprus is noticeably improving, and this is a basic condition for further market growth,” Koumis said.

The decline is not limited to French visitors. From January to August 2026, Cyprus received 2,820,649 tourists — 7% fewer than during the same period last year.

“The French market is undoubtedly extremely important for our country’s tourism,” the deputy minister stressed.
