Fuel prices in Cyprus continue to rise: diesel up 31.8 cents per litre since 13 July

Further fuel price increases are expected in Cyprus, Cyprus News Agency (CNA) was told by the director of the Consumer Protection Service, Konstantinos Karayorgis. According to him, the trend is unfavourable for consumers: refinery prices are rising.

“There is a possibility that, if conditions do not change, the next fuel shipments will arrive with another price increase. The trends are not positive,” Karayorgis noted.

According to the Fuel Retail Price Observatory, on Monday morning the average nationwide price of unleaded 95 petrol was €1.625 per litre: the lowest was €1.545 and the highest €1.718. Diesel fuel averaged €1.884 per litre, ranging from €1.795 to €1.989, while heating oil cost €1.50 per litre, ranging from €1.389 to €1.655.

The Consumer Protection Service notes that fuel prices in Cyprus have been rising since 13 July. During this period, unleaded petrol increased by 16 cents per litre and diesel fuel by 31.8 cents. Heating oil has risen by 13.7 cents per litre over the past month and a half.

At the same time, according to data as of 31 August, Cyprus remains one of the EU countries with the cheapest petrol: 95-octane petrol is the third most affordable after Malta and Bulgaria. In terms of diesel fuel, the island ranks eighth in the European Union.
