Cyprus Fire Service extinguished three fires in residential buildings within 24 hours

Over the past 24 hours, the Cyprus Fire Service responded to three fires in residential buildings — in Ayia Napa, Geroskipou in Paphos district and Latsia in Nicosia district. No one was injured in any of the incidents, while in two of the three cases the fire started in the kitchen.

The latest call came early on Tuesday morning: at 06:17, the Fire Service was notified of a fire in a prefabricated storage building attached to a single-storey house in Ayia Napa. Two crews from the Ammochostos fire station were dispatched to the scene, and the fire was brought under control at 07:10. The contents of the building were almost completely destroyed, while the house’s paintwork, an air-conditioning compressor and part of the owner’s car, which was parked in the street in front of the house, were damaged by the flames and heat. The residents noticed the fire and managed to get outside.

Shortly after 23:00 on Monday, a flat on the ground floor of a three-storey building in Geroskipou caught fire. The Paphos fire station sent two fire engines, and the fire was extinguished by 23:25. The cause was cookware left unattended on a switched-on stove: the fire damaged part of the wooden countertop and kitchen appliances, while the paintwork on the walls was affected by smoke. The resident of the flat reached a safe place.

At around 10:00 on Monday, the top floor of a residential complex in Latsia was on fire. Two fire engines and a telescopic lift from the Acropolis station attended the call, and the fire was brought under control at 10:24. The owner was not at home at the time. The fire started in the kitchen and caused serious damage to it, while smoke and high temperatures affected the other rooms.

The cause of this fire has not yet been established. The Fire Service ruled out the possibility that the fire had been caused by the electrical wiring.
