Cyprus among EU leaders in fuel price growth

Cyprus was among the European Union countries with the highest growth in fuel prices. According to Eurostat, in June 2026, the cost of fuels and lubricants for personal transport on the island increased by 18.6% compared with June last year.

By this measure, Cyprus was among the countries recording the most noticeable price increases. The sharpest rise was recorded in Bulgaria — 26%, followed by Lithuania (23.5%), Romania (23.1%), Finland (22%) and Luxembourg (20.7%). The lowest increases were recorded in Hungary (2.3%) and Poland (5.8%).

At the same time, Cyprus was one of just two EU countries where petrol prices continued to rise in June compared with May. Prices increased by 0.7% over the month, while in Italy they rose by 0.5%. In all other European Union countries, petrol prices fell over this period.

Across the EU, prices for fuels and lubricants were 13.7% higher in June than a year earlier. At the same time, compared with May, diesel fuel prices in EU countries fell by an average of 6.4%, while petrol prices declined by 4.2%.
