Cyprus to Award Bonuses to Olympic Athletes

The government of Cyprus has announced the bonuses that athletes will receive for successful performances at the Paris Olympic Games. Medalists and finalists will be awarded monetary bonuses and guaranteed future employment.

According to the Cyprus Sports Organization (CSO), the Cyprus government will award up to €150,000 to athletes who win gold medals. Silver medalists will receive €125,000, and bronze medalists will get €110,000.

Athletes who place from fourth to sixteenth will receive bonuses ranging from €80,000 to €10,000. These bonuses will be paid out within a year after the Games, provided that the athletes pass doping tests.

The bonus amounts for Cypriot athletes at the Paris Olympic Games are as follows:

• 4th place – €80,000
• 5th place – €70,000
• 6th place – €60,000
• 7th place – €55,000
• 8th place – €50,000
• 9th place – €45,000
• 10th place – €40,000
• 11th place – €35,000
• 12th place – €30,000
• 13th place – €25,000
• 14th place – €20,000
• 15th place – €15,000
• 16th place – €10,000

In addition to monetary rewards, athletes who reach the finals of the Olympics will be guaranteed employment in the public sector upon retirement.

Currently, gymnast Marios Georgiou and high jumper Elena Koulichenko have already earned this right, as they have both advanced to the finals in their respective sports.
