Cyprus Ranks Sixth in the EU for Number of Ukrainian Refugees

According to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, Cyprus ranks sixth among EU member states in terms of the number of Ukrainian refugees it has taken in.

As of the latest data, Cyprus is home to 23,090 non-EU nationals who fled Ukraine — a rate of 23.9 per 1,000 residents.

Only five countries have accepted more refugees relative to their population: the Czech Republic, Poland, Latvia, Slovakia, and Estonia. The Czech Republic tops the list, with 33.5 Ukrainian refugees per 1,000 people.

At the other end of the scale, France has accepted the fewest per capita, with just 0.8 refugees per 1,000 residents. Sweden has taken in 2.6 per 1,000, Italy 2.8, and Greece 3.2.

Due to its small geographic size and population, Cyprus accounts for the fourth-smallest share of the total number of Ukrainian refugees in the EU — just 0.5% of all Ukrainian refugees in Europe live on the island. Only Slovenia, Luxembourg, and Malta host smaller shares. Meanwhile, Germany and Poland host significantly larger numbers.

Overall, 27.8% of all Ukrainian refugees in the EU currently reside in Germany, followed by 23.4% in Poland. The Czech Republic ranks third with 8.6%.
