Cyprus ranks second in the European Union for the share of foreign tourists in overnight stays

According to fresh data from the European statistical agency Eurostat, the Republic of Cyprus has shown one of the highest levels of dependence on and success in the tourism sector among all European Union countries. The island ranked second in the EU by the share of overnight stays made by foreign nationals in accommodation establishments, уступив лидерство only to Malta.

The statistics recorded a clearly pronounced seasonality in tourist traffic in Cyprus. Peak figures, as expected, fell in the summer months and early autumn, while the winter period showed a traditional decline. The high share of foreign guests in the total volume of bookings underlines the key role of inbound tourism in generating income for the hotel business and related sectors of the republic’s economy.
