Cypriot judoka wins bronze at Commonwealth Games in Glasgow

Cypriot athlete Odysseas Georgakis won another medal for the Cypriot team at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, taking bronze in the men’s judo competition in the up to 81 kg weight category.

In the bronze-medal bout, Georgakis defeated Fernand N’kero of Gabon.

After the competition, the athlete said that despite losing in the semi-final and being unable to reach the final, he had maintained confidence in himself and achieved his goal — winning a medal.

This award became the fourth medal for Cypriot judokas at the current Commonwealth Games. The team’s performance remains flawless so far: all Cypriot judo athletes who have taken part in the competition have managed to reach the podium.

Earlier, Sofia Asvesta won silver in the women’s up to 52 kg category, while Georgi Balarjishvili took silver in the men’s up to 66 kg category. Petros Christodoulidis won another bronze in this weight category.

On the final day of competition, on Sunday, four more Cypriot judokas will take to the tatami.
