Wheelchair users in Cyprus are forced to travel on roads because there are no sidewalks
People in wheelchairs in Cyprus risk their lives every day by moving along busy roadways because the city infrastructure is not adapted for them. The main reason for this is the catastrophic condition or complete absence of sidewalks, as well as their regular blockage by parked cars and trash bins.
Representatives of disability associations emphasize that the existing ramps are often built in gross violation of standards — they are too steep or lead into obstacles. Experts and activists are calling on municipal authorities and the Ministry of Interior to stop ignoring the problem, begin a real modernization of pedestrian areas, and increase fines for parking on sidewalks in order to ensure citizens' basic right to safe movement.
