Pila criminal chronicle: Supreme Court refuses to close torture case at casino
The Supreme Court of Cyprus has put an end to the legal dispute in the high-profile case linked to the operation of a casino in the village of Pila. The court fully rejected the application of the manager of the establishment, who sought to have the search warrant for his office declared unlawful and annulled.
The investigation began after shocking photo and video material was found on the suspect’s mobile phones. The recordings show brutal beatings and torture of seven people, which took place between June and September 2025. The interior of the room in the video matched the casino management’s office exactly. The gang is accused of kidnapping, unlawful detention, extortion and causing grievous bodily harm.
The manager himself is currently being held in the Central Prison. His defense tried to challenge the legality of the investigative actions and the collection of evidence, including DNA samples and the search for weapons, but the Supreme Court ruled that the warrant had been issued completely lawfully and proportionately to the seriousness of the crimes. The investigation continues.
