26 mm of rain fell at Larnaca Airport — 15 times the monthly average

Rainfall at Larnaca Airport has reached 26 mm since the beginning of September — 15 times the usual amount for this month. This is the highest figure in Cyprus, according to data from the Department of Meteorology as of Friday morning.

Across the island, an average of 4 mm of rainfall has accumulated since 1 September, against a monthly average of 4.5 mm — 89% of the norm. Of this total, 3.3 mm fell in the past 24 hours: the previous day, meteorologists issued a yellow warning due to thunderstorms, hail and strong winds.

Besides Larnaca Airport, heavy rainfall was recorded in Pano Panagia — 19.4 mm, approximately four times the average — and in Prodromos — 10.6 mm, close to the usual level. At the same time, there was no rain at three locations: Limassol New Port, Kellaki and Lithrodontas.

The hydrological year in Cyprus is drawing to a close, with the total above average: from 1 October 2025 to the morning of 18 September 2026, the island received 613.1 mm of rainfall — 122% of the norm for this period.
