Summer Holidays in Cyprus
For arranging childcare for primary school and kindergarten-aged children in Cyprus, the following options are available:
• State summer schools and kindergartens. The program covers 25 working days (from June 22 to July 24). The project involves 64 institutions: 39 primary schools and 25 kindergartens across the island. Places are allocated under the quotas of the Ministry of Education.
• Private sector. This includes commercial summer schools, private kindergartens, themed hobby clubs, and sports sections. They offer daytime care with different schedules (including extended hours and meal arrangements), but places must be booked 2–3 months before the start of the season.
• Informal care network. This includes involving relatives (grandparents), hiring private nannies full-time, or splitting the annual leave between parents by shifts so they can look after the children at home independently.
In August (especially after the 15th), state programs are completely closed, and the number of operating private facilities drops sharply, leaving assistance from relatives, hiring a nanny, or using parental leave as the main available options.
