Projects to improve 17 squares in residential areas to be presented in Limassol

Limassol Municipality will present residents with preliminary projects to improve 17 squares in the city’s residential areas. The public presentation and discussion will take place today, 15 September, at 18:00 at the Panos Solomonides Municipal Cultural Centre. Admission is free.

The programme is called “Revitalisation of public squares as part of the modernisation of Limassol’s urban environment” and is divided into three parts. The designers will show the current condition of each site and explain exactly what they propose to change there.

The works will affect squares in 13 districts of the city: Apostolos Andreas, Agios Nikolaos, Agia Fyla, Timios Prodromos, Agios Spyridonas, Tsiflikoudia, Panagia Evangelistria, Agios Georgios, Chalkoutsa, Kapsalos, Omonia, Neapolis and Panthea.

The projects’ priorities are “the preservation and increase of green areas, the creation of shaded zones, the upgrading of playgrounds, improved safety and accessibility, the use of durable materials that do not require frequent maintenance, and the installation of suitable lighting”, according to the announcement. The aim is to turn the squares into functional urban spaces for recreation, sports, socialising and neighbourhood events.

After the presentation, residents and organisations will be able to submit their comments, which will be taken into account before the final projects are approved. This is not the first time Limassol Municipality has put the city’s squares up for public discussion: projects are prepared and presented in batches, with several squares at a time.
