Limassol hosts EU foreign ministers: Ukraine and European security in focus

An informal meeting of European Union foreign ministers has begun in Limassol, organized as part of Cyprus’ presidency of the EU Council. The opening of the event is accompanied by an official dinner hosted today by Cyprus Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos.

Among the participants are Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, as well as invited senior guests from India and Saudi Arabia. India is represented by Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, while Saudi Arabia is represented by Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud.

The informal meeting is taking place on May 27–28 under the co-chairmanship of Constantinos Kombos and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas.

The main negotiations will be held on Thursday at the port of Limassol. According to Cyprus’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the participants will discuss a broad range of international and regional issues, including the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Particular attention will be paid by the ministers to European security and defense. The agenda also includes the preparation of a new European Security Strategy, which is expected to define the EU’s further approach to defense, crisis response and international stability.

At the end of the meeting, Constantinos Kombos and Kaja Kallas will hold a joint press conference, where they will summarize the talks and outline the key decisions and directions for the European Union’s дальнейшей work.
