Limassol unveils project to upgrade 15 squares in 13 city districts

The Limassol Municipality has presented a preliminary project for the improvement of fifteen public squares in thirteen city districts. The work is being carried out as part of a programme to improve the urban environment, with the design prepared by the project company Ioannis-Loizas E.P.E.

The authors propose preserving and expanding green areas, making the squares safe and accessible for people of all ages, renovating children’s playgrounds, adding shade, replacing surfaces with durable materials that do not require frequent maintenance, and improving lighting.

The aim is to turn the squares into spaces for everyday neighbourhood life: places for play, relaxation, meetings, light physical activity and socialising. Transitional zones are planned between areas with different purposes so that various uses do not interfere with one another and remain safe.

The project is open for public discussion at the Panos Solomonides Cultural Centre until Wednesday, 23 September. Residents can send comments and suggestions by email until Tuesday, 22 September, indicating “Proposal for a public square” in the subject line.

Limassol Mayor Yiannis Armeftis thanked the presentation participants and confirmed that the municipality would continue its work to improve public spaces and enhance the quality of life in the city.
