On Wednesday, the Limassol Municipality presented a new fleet of cleaning equipment as part of a programme to upgrade vehicles and equipment worth around €5.6 million, excluding VAT. The equipment was displayed at the wholesale market.

Limassol Mayor Yannis Armeftis said the city intends to gradually take all outdated equipment out of service, reduce maintenance costs and improve the reliability of municipal services.

The programme covers the period from July 2024 to July 2026 and comprises 22 contracts for the purchase of 70 vehicles and pieces of equipment. Of these, 35 have already been delivered, while the city expects to receive the remaining 35 in 2026 and 2027.

The main focus is on cleaning. “To date, the municipality has received four self-propelled sweepers, one of which was donated by XM, as well as three electric walk-behind sweepers, two vehicles equipped with high-pressure washing systems and one self-propelled beach-cleaning machine,” Armeftis said.

In the coming months, the city expects four 19-cubic-metre refuse collection vehicles, three with a capacity of 22 cubic metres, one with a capacity of 12 cubic metres and a water tanker. Once the contracts are completed in 2026 and 2027, the fleet will be expanded by two more self-propelled sweepers and three large 22-cubic-metre refuse collection vehicles.

The vehicles used by technical services are also being upgraded: six pickup trucks with tipper bodies, three double-cab vehicles, one electric vehicle, seven passenger cars and three commercial vans have already been delivered. They will later be joined by a backhoe loader, ten double-cab vehicles, eight pickup trucks and another electric vehicle.

Separately, the municipality handed over a fully equipped fire engine worth €40,000 to the Krasochoria Community Association. Part of the cost was covered by donations collected in July for people affected by the wildfires in the area, while the remainder was paid by Limassol.
