Single bus ticket in Limassol to rise to €2.50 from November 5

EMEL, the operator of Limassol’s city buses, is raising fares across all ticket categories from November 5. The price of a single ticket paid in cash to the driver will increase from €2 to €2.50.

The daily pass will increase from €6 to €7, while the weekly pass will rise from €25 to €35. The personalised monthly pass will cost €50 instead of €45, and the monthly bearer pass will increase from €45 to €60. The fare paid via an electronic wallet remains unchanged at €2.

EMEL attributes the increase to rising operating costs: fuel has become approximately 30% more expensive, while maintenance, spare parts and staff costs have also increased. The contract allows fares to be reviewed every two years based on indices from the Cyprus Statistical Service (CyStat).

Passenger numbers are also growing: over the year, the number of journeys increased by approximately 10%, from 6 million to 6.6 million, while average occupancy reached 64%.

In Nicosia, fares were increased back in August: a single ticket there costs €2.70, more than it will in Limassol. Compared with European cities, fares in Limassol remain cheaper than in Berlin and Vienna, although some passes cost more than in Athens and Rome.
