Aid for those affected by the fires in the Limassol mountains exceeds €15.3 million

State spending on support for those affected by the summer 2025 fires in the mountainous areas of Limassol has exceeded €15.3 million. The figures, as of August 28, 2026, were reported by the Cyprus Ministry of Interior.

The ministry reviewed a total of 863 applications for compensation for damages: 536 were approved and 327 rejected. A further 75 cases involving agricultural structures were examined separately. Applicants filed 65 objections to the decisions: 35 were upheld, 27 rejected, one withdrawn, and two are awaiting additional documents.

Those directly affected have been paid around €10.78 million. Of this amount, €2.29 million was provided in one-off payments, while a further €4.8 million went towards the first instalments for repairing damaged homes. The remaining funds are being transferred in subsequent instalments as the houses are restored.

For families that have still been unable to return to their homes, the state is compensating them for renting alternative accommodation, with payments covering a period of up to 24 months. By the end of August, 134 families had received the first instalment of this assistance.

In addition to direct compensation, the budget provided €2.07 million for clearing sites, €700,000 for the purchase of fire engines, €667,979 to reimburse municipal fees, and €395,000 for community councils in the affected villages.
