Smuggled tobacco products found in car in Limassol as driver flees

During vehicle checks, Limassol Traffic Police officers stopped a car, but the driver failed to comply with the officers’ instructions and fled the scene.

During an inspection of the vehicle, officers found and seized 4 kilograms of hookah tobacco, 37 cartons of 200 cigarettes each and 450 grams of rolling tobacco.

The products found did not have the mandatory health warnings in Greek and Turkish, security features or a unique tracking code, indicating possible non-payment of taxes and duties.

The case is being investigated by the Limassol Customs Investigation Department together with the police. A search for the driver is under way.

In addition, on 15 July, Limassol Customs officers inspecting a consolidated shipment from Greece at a transport company’s warehouse in Limassol found six bottles of liquid containing cannabidiol (CBD), as well as 119 products from various brands that allegedly infringe intellectual property rights.

These cases are also under investigation.
