Limassol police have arrested one of their own officers on suspicion of stealing an electric scooter that was being kept at the police station as evidence. The officer admitted his guilt and is being suspended from duty.

The scooter was seized from a foreign national: officers from the Limassol Police Division stopped him for a check, but he attempted to flee. The vehicle was placed in storage at the station as evidence in his case.

When the scooter was needed for investigative purposes, it was no longer there. An investigation found that the arrested officer had loaded it into his car during a night shift. He subsequently admitted to the theft.

The case is being handled by the Limassol police internal affairs department. “This is a serious matter,” police spokesman Viron Vyronos said, stressing that the police leadership has “zero tolerance for such incidents.”

The case file will be submitted to court as soon as possible. While internal procedures are under way, the officer is being placed on administrative reserve, meaning he is suspended from carrying out his duties.
