The Cyprus Medical Association has reported systemic failures in the national healthcare system
The Pancyprian Medical Association issued an official statement in which it detailed the key shortcomings and defects in the functioning of the state health insurance system. According to the professional community, despite years of operation, the system still suffers from excessive bureaucracy, which makes interaction between doctors and patients more difficult. The main problems cited are long waiting times for appointments with specialist doctors, a shortage of quality consumables in a number of clinics, and a lack of effective oversight over the allocation of budget funds.
Doctors emphasize that the current operating algorithms of the GeSY electronic platform regularly fail, slowing down the process of patient registration and the issuance of the necessary prescriptions for medications. The association calls on the Ministry of Health and the Health Insurance Organization to carry out immediate reforms aimed at optimizing the system, reducing the administrative burden on doctors, and increasing the transparency of the fund’s operations. The organization’s leadership warns that if these structural problems are not resolved in the near future, this will inevitably lead to a decline in the overall quality of medical care on the island.
