A 1,018 kW solar park launched at the Mia Milia wastewater treatment plant
A 1,018 kW solar park began operating at the Mia Milia wastewater treatment plant on 26 August. The Nicosia District Local Government Organisation (EOA) announced this.
The park was built by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with funding from the European Union. The panels will cover part of the plant’s electricity needs.
“The connection works were coordinated and supervised by Mehmet Harmancı’s team, with whom we have developed a very good working relationship over many years. The works have been completed, and the photovoltaic park has been commissioned,” the organisation said in a statement.
The EOA noted that the launch will significantly reduce the plant’s environmental footprint and operating costs. It added that the organisation will continue projects that save energy and reduce the burden on the environment.
The Mia Milia plant is shared by both parts of Nicosia: it receives wastewater from both sides of the buffer zone. The facility has been operating since 2013, is designed to process 30,000 cubic metres of wastewater per day and uses membrane technology for tertiary treatment.
