Defense minister denies plans for permanent deployment of Greek forces in Cyprus

The Minister of Defense of the Republic of Cyprus, Vasilis Palmas, has officially denied reports of plans for the permanent deployment of Greek military contingents on the island. According to him, the rumors circulating in the media do not correspond to reality and have no basis.
Palmas stressed that military cooperation between Cyprus and Greece remains exceptionally close and strategic, but it is implemented through joint exercises and modernization programs, rather than the creation of permanent bases. The ministry noted that the country’s defense policy is aimed at strengthening its own security and deterring threats, not at escalating tensions in the region.
