Scammers stole €65,415 from a Nicosia district resident’s account after promising cryptocurrency income
Cyprus police are investigating a new cryptocurrency fraud case: €65,415 was stolen from the account of a 53-year-old resident of Nicosia district. The man filed a report with the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department on 27 August.

According to police, on 26 August the man received a call from an unknown person who spoke Greek and offered to help him cash out income from previous cryptocurrency investments. The caller then handed the conversation over to another man, who introduced himself as his superior.
The second caller asked the man to install a specific application on his computer and mobile phone. The man followed the instructions and gave the callers access to his online banking. The scammers then carried out a series of transactions and withdrew €65,415 from the account.
The case has been referred to the Economic Crime Investigation Group of the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department.
Police urge people not to provide third parties with access to their electronic devices or online accounts and not to disclose personal or banking details to anyone. For any financial investments, the authorities advise working only with recognised companies and licensed consultants.
