Paphos Municipality to Join Nationwide Action in Support of Local Government
Paphos Municipality will take part in a nationwide symbolic action organised by the Union of Cyprus Municipalities. The protest will take place today from 09:00 to 12:00 outside the municipal building.
Participants in the action intend to draw attention to the need to strengthen local government. The key demands include expanding the administrative, financial and organisational autonomy of municipalities so that they can address residents’ needs more effectively and provide quality services.
Paphos Municipality stressed that strong and resilient local authorities are an important part of the public administration system and directly affect the population’s quality of life.
The city authorities also expressed their support for initiatives aimed at strengthening the role of municipalities, provided that there is constructive dialogue and cooperation among all interested parties.
At the same time, participation by municipal employees in the action will be entirely voluntary. The authorities stressed that no employee is required to join the protest and that no one will face any consequences because of their decision.
The municipality also assured residents that it would continue providing the most important and urgent services during the action.
The organisers emphasise that the protest is peaceful and symbolic, and that its main aim is to secure the creation of an effective and financially sustainable system of local government.
