A new €1.3 million e-waste recycling center will be built in Cyprus

A modern center for the collection and recycling of electronic waste, batteries and expired medicines will be built in Cyprus. The new facility, with a cost of €1.3 million, will be established in the municipality of South Nicosia — Idalion.

The project will be carried out by WEEE Cyprus, which is the only licensed collective management system for electronic waste in Cyprus. The construction operator will be Flanxo Holdings Ltd.

The new complex will be able to receive and sort around 5,190 tons of waste annually. It will accept large and small household appliances, televisions and monitors, refrigerators, air conditioners, solar panels, batteries, cartridges and toners, fluorescent lamps, as well as expired medicines.

The main goal of the project is to reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills and increase the recycling of valuable materials, which will help reduce the burden on the environment.

The center will be located on a 6,509 sq. m plot in the Dali industrial zone. Since the building already exists, construction work will take about four months. As part of the modernization, the surrounding area will be paved, a covered sorting area will be set up and vehicle scales will be installed.

All incoming waste will be inspected, sorted and temporarily stored, after which it will be handed over to specialized licensed companies for further processing.
