Fuel prices plunge in Cyprus despite rising prices across the EU

Fuel prices in Cyprus fell significantly in July, while they rose in most European Union countries. According to Eurostat, the price of diesel fuel in Cyprus fell by 7.9% in July compared with June, while petrol prices fell by 5.4%.

This was one of the most significant monthly price decreases in the EU. Across the European Union, diesel prices rose by an average of 4.3%, while petrol prices increased by 4.7%. Cyprus recorded the largest drop in diesel prices among EU countries, at 7.9%. It was followed by Sweden, with a 7.4% decline, and Ireland, with a 6.4% fall. The drop in petrol prices in Cyprus was the second-largest, after Sweden, where prices fell by 11.1%.

At the same time, fuel in Cyprus is still considerably more expensive than a year ago. In June, prices for fuels and lubricants for personal transport were 18.6% higher than in June 2025.

According to European Commission data as of 17 August, Cyprus is among the EU countries with the lowest fuel prices. The average price of a litre of 95-octane petrol was around €1.56, while diesel fuel cost €1.70. For both types of fuel, Cyprus ranked fifth among the 27 EU countries when prices were ordered from lowest to highest.
