Calls from the fake “National Police Security Office” are becoming more frequent in Cyprus
The Cyprus Police are warning about a new wave of scam calls from numbers disguised as local ones. Call recipients hear an English-language answering machine message on behalf of the non-existent “National Police Security Office.” People are told that their data is linked to suspicious activity and are invited to contact an “operator,” who then tries to obtain personal and banking details through intimidation under the pretext of an investigation.
Law enforcement stresses that they never conduct investigations in the form of automated calls. If you receive such a call, you should immediately hang up, not press any numbers and report the incident to the hotline 1460 or to the nearest police station.
