In Cyprus, ground mint is urgently being removed from store shelves due to undeclared allergen

The Ministry of Health of Cyprus has ordered the immediate withdrawal of the product “ground mint” under the brand name «ΓΕΟΧΑΚΟ» (20 g, expiration date — December 31, 2028), produced in Cyprus. The reason for the recall is the presence of celery, which was not listed on the packaging.

According to the State Health Service, the presence of celery was confirmed by laboratory analyses conducted by accredited units of the General State Laboratory. The violation concerns incorrect labeling, as celery is among the potential allergens and must be clearly indicated on the label.

Authorities urge consumers, especially those allergic to celery, not to consume the product and to return it to the point of purchase. The recall is taking place across the entire retail network, as some of the product may have already reached circulation.

Celery is considered one of the allergens that can cause severe reactions in sensitive individuals. The Ministry emphasizes that food safety control remains a priority and calls on all market participants to strictly comply with labeling requirements.
