Historic Harley-Davidson motorcycle from Archbishop Makarios III’s motorcade restored in Cyprus
On 17 June 2026, the Cyprus Police announced the completion of a full restoration of a historic Harley-Davidson motorcycle that belonged to the escort of the republic’s first president, Archbishop Makarios III. The motorcycle, which led the official motorcades of the head of state at public events, had been on display in the museum for more than 50 years.
Key facts about the relic:
• History: this “Harley” (together with two other bikes and a car) was gifted to the archbishop by a Cypriot shareholder of Cadillac who lived in the United States.
• Restoration: the work was fully funded and carried out by Harley-Davidson Cyprus. The specialists managed to preserve the vehicle’s authentic historical appearance and return it to full working order — the motorcycle’s engine has been started again.
• Where to see it: the rare item is one of the most valuable exhibits at the Cyprus Police Museum (founded in 1933). The museum is located in Nicosia, next to the department’s headquarters.
