Kalavasos Mosque Restored in Cyprus
The Kalavasos Mosque in the Larnaca district has been fully restored and is now open to the public. Over the next few days, several similar restoration projects on both the northern and southern parts of the island are expected to be completed.
This was announced by Sotos Ktoris, the Greek Cypriot co-chair of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage.
The restoration work on the Kalavasos Mosque, which included structural repairs and finishing touches, was funded by the European Union and carried out with the direct involvement of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
“The Kalavasos Mosque, like all historical monuments in Cyprus, serves as a living testament to the island’s history and multicultural heritage—a legacy shaped by centuries of coexistence between different religions and cultures,” emphasized Ktoris.
Earlier this week, it was reported that restoration efforts at the Church of St. George in the village of Flamoudi on the Karpas Peninsula had also been successfully completed.
