47 people detained in Cyprus during raid targeting illegal employment
During a large-scale inspection of catering establishments in Cyprus, 47 people suspected of illegal employment were detained.
The joint operation was carried out by officers from the migration service and the labour inspectorate. Inspections were conducted at 16 cafés and restaurants.
All those detained are suspected of engaging in illegal employment. In addition, nine of them are also accused of illegally staying in the Republic of Cyprus.
Following the raid, the labour inspectorate fined 16 employers for using undeclared labour. The total amount of administrative fines was €195,000.
Police said that similar inspections would be carried out daily.
