Cyprus to Launch Next-Generation Emergency Response System 112
In 20 months, Cyprus plans to put into operation the next-generation emergency response system NG112. It will make it possible not only to call 112, but also to send text messages, photos, videos, location data, as well as automatically receive eCall signals from vehicles.
The new platform will become a single emergency call processing center and will serve the police, fire service, ambulance service, the Department of Forests, the National Guard, the Search and Rescue Coordination Center and the Civil Defence.
After launch, control of the system will pass from the police to the Civil Defence. According to officials, this will make it possible to transfer information between services more quickly and reduce response times in emergency situations.
The new system will also provide more convenient access to emergency assistance for people with disabilities and will comply with European standards.
