Rusty Army Rifle Found in Shallow Waters off Xylofagou: Police and National Guard Join the Investigation
Police of the British Bases in Cyprus are investigating the origin of military weaponry found in a coastal area. A G3 assault rifle, covered with a thick layer of rust, was found on Sunday afternoon in shallow waters off the coast of Xylofagou.
A report from holidaymakers came in at around 17:30, after which patrol units were immediately dispatched to the scene. Since G3 rifles are in service with the National Guard, both the state police of the Republic of Cyprus and the military were promptly brought into the case. The authorities are now jointly trying to determine the weapon’s serial numbers in order to find out how and when it ended up in the water, and whether this gun has any criminal trace or was stolen from storage.
