Greek Cypriot woman detained in northern Cyprus over ex-partner’s intimate photos
The authorities of the TRNC have detained a 39-year-old Greek Cypriot woman on charges of violating privacy. The woman was arrested on 6 June at the Pergamos checkpoint while attempting to enter the northern part of the island. During document checks, it emerged that she was wanted under a warrant issued in August 2025.
The essence of the case:
• The warrant was issued following a complaint by a Turkish Cypriot woman who is the legal spouse of the detainee’s former partner.
• According to the investigation, in June 2022, during a secret relationship, the detainee took intimate photos and videos of the man without his consent.
• After that relationship ended, the Greek Cypriot woman sent the materials to her former partner’s spouse via Instagram. In August 2025, the victim filed an official complaint with the police.
Current status and context:
The court has already issued an arrest order for the suspect, and the police have seized and are examining her mobile phone. Communication and information exchange in this criminal case between the Greek and Turkish communities of the island are being carried out through the specialized intercommunal committee (Joint Communications Room), established in the Nicosia buffer zone with the assistance of UN police.
