Cyprus Tax Department begins round-the-clock business inspections in resort areas
The Cyprus Tax Department is conducting large-scale on-site inspections of businesses across the country, paying particular attention to resort areas at the height of the tourist season.
Department head Sotiris Markidis said inspectors work around the clock and check whether companies issue receipts and invoices, as well as accept payments by bank card.
According to department representatives, the inspections are taking place in all districts of Cyprus and will be stepped up in the near future.
The main aim of the campaign — is to improve tax compliance and ensure adherence to legal requirements.
Businesses are reminded that refusing to accept card payments may result in a fine of 4,000 euros.
Particular attention is being paid to establishments in coastal areas, where the number of cash transactions increases significantly in summer due to the influx of tourists.
