Larnaca police arrest 20 people over disturbances at Nea Salamina supporters’ day
Larnaca police have arrested a further seven people in connection with disturbances at the supporters’ day of football club Nea Salamina. A total of 20 people have been arrested in the case, the Larnaca Police Criminal Investigation Department (TAE) said.

The latest group of detainees includes two foreign nationals — aged 35 and 16 — and five Greek Cypriots aged 42, 28, 28, 21 and 20. The investigation is continuing, and some of those involved in the disturbances have not yet been identified.
The disturbances took place during the night of 24 August on an auxiliary pitch at Ammochostos Stadium in Larnaca, where the club was holding its supporters’ day. Police are investigating the case under provisions relating to causing bodily harm and hooliganism.
The first person detained in the case was a 22-year-old man, and the Larnaca court issued a warrant for his remand in custody for four days. By 2 September, the number of people arrested had risen to 12, including three minors aged 17, 15 and 14. At that point, around 24 other suspects remained under investigation.
“Checks to identify the remaining suspects are continuing,” said Larnaca TAE chief Georgios Charalambous. Police are asking anyone who may be able to identify those involved in the disturbances to call 24 804060–72.
