Newborn suffers burns at Larnaca maternity ward — investigation launched
At the Larnaca General Hospital, a newborn baby suffered burns to the lower extremities during their first bath. The child is in serious condition and has been transferred to the Nicosia Children's Hospital.

According to the mother, immediately after birth, the staff placed the infant in water that was too hot, which led to the burns.
The spokesperson for the State Health Services Organization (SHSO/OKYPY), Charalambos Charilaou, stated that the incident is under investigation. According to him, such cases are extremely rare because temperature protocols are strictly regulated: bath water for newborns must not exceed 37–38°C and must match body temperature.
SHSO emphasized that an internal investigation will be conducted. Its goal is to determine if rules were violated and to establish possible disciplinary responsibility for the staff. Depending on the results, the findings may be handed over to the police.
