The trial in the double murder case in Arakapas has entered its decisive phase. The 25-year-old defendant, who previously admitted guilt in the premeditated killing of two people, is awaiting sentencing. The only punishment provided by law for this crime is life imprisonment.

The sentence is due to be handed down in early June. After that, the convicted man will be brought into the further proceedings as a prosecution witness in the case of the second accused — a 21-year-old man who continues to deny any involvement in the crime.

The tragedy occurred on July 30, 2024, in the Lestovouno-Arakapas area. The bodies of 39-year-old Andreas Kouzoupis and 38-year-old Slovak citizen David Chmelar were found in a burnt car on a dirt road between Parekklisia and Kellaki. Forensic examination established that both men were shot in the head with a hunting rifle before the car was set on fire.

According to the case file, the defendants had previously arranged to meet the victims at the reservoir in Arakapas. After the victims arrived at the scene, the murder was carried out. In court, it was stated that both victims received successive gunshots to the head from a hunting weapon.

After the crime, the perpetrators transported the victims' car to the Lestovouno area, drove it off the road into a tree, and then doused it with flammable liquid and set it on fire. As a result, the car burned out completely together with the bodies of the victims.

At the next hearing, the lawyer for the defendant who has been found guilty will address procedural matters before the final sentencing. Meanwhile, the case against the second defendant will continue in the usual way.
