One person dies after falling during migration raid in Larnaca
In Larnaca, one of three men injured during a serious incident that took place on Wednesday morning amid a large-scale operation by the Department of Foreigners and Migration has died.
The man was in critical condition at Larnaca General Hospital after falling from a multistorey building in the city centre. Doctors fought for his life, but the injuries he sustained, including a severe traumatic brain injury, were incompatible with life.
According to preliminary information, the three men are believed to have jumped from the balcony of the FILANDA apartment complex in an attempt to avoid arrest during an inspection carried out by the migration service. The nine-storey building is known for housing a large number of foreign nationals.
The incident took place as part of a large-scale operation to identify people illegally staying in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus. After the incident, the area was cordoned off by police, and several ambulance crews and rescuers arrived at the scene.
The other two injured men continue to receive treatment in hospital. According to doctors, their lives are not in danger.
Police and migration services are continuing to investigate the circumstances of the incident, including the reasons for the men’s fall and the conditions of their stay in the building.
