Hunting season begins with 12 fines and more than 300 checks
On the first day of the hunting season, police carried out more than 300 checks across Cyprus. As a result, 12 fines were issued for various offences, including transporting an assembled hunting firearm in a vehicle, hunting in a prohibited area and carrying a hunting firearm in an area where hunting is prohibited.
In addition, Stroumbi Police Station is investigating a case involving two men, aged 39 and 42, who were found by officers from the Game and Fauna Service hunting in an area where hunting is prohibited.
The men were issued on-the-spot fines for hunting and carrying hunting firearms in a prohibited area. A separate investigation is under way into the illegal storage and transportation of hunting firearms.
Checks will continue throughout the hunting season. Police intend to monitor compliance with the law, prevent offences and ensure public safety.
