Pavlos Kontides wins silver at training regatta in Ireland
On 21 June, Cypriot sailor Pavlos Kontides won the silver medal at the ILCA regatta in Dun Laoghaire. The world ranking leader collected 45 penalty points in nine races, finishing behind Britain’s Elliot Hanson and ahead of Croatia’s Tonci Stipanovic. The competition served as a dress rehearsal for the World Championship, which will take place in the same waters of Dublin Bay from 23 to 30 August 2026.
The tournament successfully tested the Vakaros electronic start system for automatically recording false starts. For the 36-year-old athlete from Limassol, who recently recovered from an injury and became European champion for the third time, this is his second medal in a month. Kontides will now visit Cyprus before heading to a training camp in Los Angeles.
