Worker killed at construction site in Peyia; contractor and concrete pump operator arrested
A 52-year-old worker was killed at a construction site in Peyia, Paphos district, after the boom of a concrete pump struck and severed two overhead power lines carrying 11,000 volts. The man was electrocuted and could not be saved. Cyprus police arrested two people — the contractor and the pump operator.

The accident occurred at around 14:30 on Saturday at a construction site on Kokkinokampou Street. During the pouring of ready-mix concrete, the pump boom touched the wires of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC). The injured man was taken to Paphos Hospital, where he died despite doctors’ efforts. The deceased was 52-year-old Konstantinos Posnagkof, a Georgian national.
Under court warrants, a 46-year-old foreign contractor and a 53-year-old concrete pump operator, a Cypriot national, were arrested. They are being investigated on suspicion of causing death as a result of reckless, negligent or dangerous acts.
The scene has been cordoned off. Police are investigating the incident together with the Department of Labour Inspection and the Electricity Authority of Cyprus, examining all the circumstances of the incident and the working conditions at the site.
