Cyprus Post issues commemorative stamp for the 200th anniversary of the Exodus of Messolonghi
Cyprus Post has introduced a new commemorative stamp dedicated to the 200th anniversary of the Exodus of Messolonghi — one of the pivotal events in modern Greek history, symbolizing the struggle for freedom and sacrifice for independence.
Deputy Director of Postal Services Pavlos Pavlidis noted that the stamp issuance also highlights the long-standing ties between Morphou and the Greek city of Messolonghi, established through a twinning agreement signed in 2002.
The Mayor of Morphou, Victor Hadjiavraam, stated that the relationship between the two cities is based on a similar historical experience related to the hardships and resilience of their residents. According to him, the history of Hellenism is a history of sacrifice and struggle, not of wavering from one's values.
The Mayor of Messolonghi, Spyros Diamantopoulos, emphasized that such initiatives strengthen the historical and cultural bonds between Cyprus and Greece, reminding of a shared memory and common historical experiences.
